To oversee and make recommendations to Department Council regarding graduate student enrollment management, including recruitment, application and admission, as well as matters pertaining to course and program development and modification.

Graduate Scholarship and Awards Committee

The Graduate Scholarships and Awards Committee shall oversee graduate scholarships and awards processes and make recommendations to Department Council regarding policy pertaining to graduate scholarships and awards. The Committee shall:

  1. adjudicate and make nominations for graduate scholarships and awards.
  2. provide feedback to graduate students and their supervisors.
  3. determine procedures pertaining to graduate scholarships and awards.

Membership

  1. Graduate Coordinator who shall be Chair
  2. 3 full time academic staff members
  3. 1 graduate student from a pool of 5 graduate students (senior masters or doctoral students) recommended to Department Council by the Educational Policy Studies Graduate Students Association
    Note: Students applying for an award are not eligible to serve on the committee for that award.
  4. Graduate Awards Administrator (non-voting)

Term

The normal term shall be 1 year (September 1 to August 30).

To make recommendations to Department Council regarding:

  • Areas of research in which the department might choose to excel.
  • Strategies and activities for promoting collaboration and vibrant intellectual life in the department.
  • Strategies and activities for promoting student involvement in faculty research.
  • Strategies and activities for increasing faculty and graduate student participation and success in scholarship, fellowship, and research
  • competitions, and other means for providing adequate levels of funding for research and graduate students.
  • To organize seminars and other academic events.
  • To arrange for academic visitors to the department.
  • To coordinate efforts when needed with the Social Committee.

  1. 2 full-time continuing academic staff members, elected for a two-year term by full-time continuing academic staff, at least one of whom will have served for at least one year.
  2. 3 graduate students, recommended to Department Council by the Educational Policy Studies Graduate Students Association

Timetable Committee

  1. To determine an efficient and effective schedule for graduate courses in Fall, Winter, Spring, and Summer Terms.
  2. To prepare a tentative 3-year Timetable Schedule for graduate courses.

Membership

  1. 3 full-time continuing academic staff members, elected by full-time continuing academic staff.
  2. 1 graduate student, recommended to Department Council by the Educational Policy Studies Graduate Student Association
  3. the Administrative Professional Officer (ex officio)
  4. the Department Chair, who shall serve as chair

Roles and Responsibilities

The Department Chair will:

  1. determine course capacity based upon historical data from previous course
  2. assign courses based upon faculty submissions, taking into consideration factors such as leaves, administrative appointments, and course buy-outs

Specialization groups will:

  1. identify courses that should be scheduled for the upcoming year and for the three-year timetable.
  2. identify instructors within and outside other universities for possible Spring/Summer course offerings.

Academic Staff will:

  1. select and rank order in terms of preference, 6 to 8 courses from the departmental list of courses (as identified by specialization groups)
  2. identify preferred term and day/time for courses selected

The Timetabling Committee will:

  1. In May, create a tentative schedule for each 3 year timetable period, including spring and summer courses
  2. In June, circulate a draft to faculty for feedback and recommendation
  3. In September, finalize the upcoming academic year timetable.
